RSS vs Email

Quite busy recently, things keep occupying my mind, and haven’t blogged for a while. I was talking to a manager about RSS and email, and how does it fit into the day-to-day office operations. There is no correct answer though, I’ve struggled a bit to tell him how he can possibly benefit from RSS.

No Registration, you’ve to register yourself to a mailing list in order to receive news/notice. With RSS, everything is in your control, registering and canceling doesn’t need third-party intervention.

No Spam Panic, RSS isn’t email, they’re kept in a separate application.

No Worm/Virus, RSS cannot spread virus/worm because you don’t use Outlook to read it!

Polymorphism, RSS is a XML format, unlike plain-text email, which can be transformed to any format to match your needs.

Better Bandwidth Management, once you’ve joined in a mailing list, you’ll receive news in regular intervals, you may find your box spammed with news items while you’re away. In contrast, simply close down the RSS reader and leave you in peace!

I think they’re self-explanatory, why do you stick with emails?
