The Road to Heaven

Ms. Schiavo has finally died, it’s a surprising outcome. I thought Bush can save her! Just in case you haven’t knew she had her feeding tube removed twice, and this is the third and final. Would you like to swap bodies with her? You guessed right, I mean starting from tomorrow you will be lying on her bed, would you mind? No, may be for few days, but definitely not for 15 years! Thanks to the technology giving us such a disaster, you wouldn’t have lived for so long if this happened 30 years before, and she has given such a hopeless phrase called “Persistent Vegetative State”. Should we feed a human being who is actually a plant? Hell no. I’m not as gluttonous as her parents who let their daughter watching to the ceiling 24hrs a day and stuck in an irreversible hell.

At a different corner of hospital, tens of thousands of patients suffering from heart attack, cancer and other serious diseases queuing up and waiting for organ donation, they’ve a great family, they can bounce back and be well again, a organ could send them back to home as quick as possible. Have you made your mind up?

RSS vs Email

Quite busy recently, things keep occupying my mind, and haven’t blogged for a while. I was talking to a manager about RSS and email, and how does it fit into the day-to-day office operations. There is no correct answer though, I’ve struggled a bit to tell him how he can possibly benefit from RSS.

No Registration, you’ve to register yourself to a mailing list in order to receive news/notice. With RSS, everything is in your control, registering and canceling doesn’t need third-party intervention.

No Spam Panic, RSS isn’t email, they’re kept in a separate application.

No Worm/Virus, RSS cannot spread virus/worm because you don’t use Outlook to read it!

Polymorphism, RSS is a XML format, unlike plain-text email, which can be transformed to any format to match your needs.

Better Bandwidth Management, once you’ve joined in a mailing list, you’ll receive news in regular intervals, you may find your box spammed with news items while you’re away. In contrast, simply close down the RSS reader and leave you in peace!

I think they’re self-explanatory, why do you stick with emails?

Before you get a new PC...

It’s been a week since I bought my new PC, everything goes quite well (touch wood). Even so, there is something I would like to say in my blog. First of all, you should get a brand new and consistent power supply from a manufacturer that you trust in because I saw some power supplies blew up at their homes, getting a good power supply is a good idea and will save you money eventually as they’ve a better circuitry to reserve power, “Active PFC (Power Factor Correction)” is the key word you should search for. It may save your bill up to 30%, a lot of tests have confirmed it. Another issue with new components such as a 200GB hard drive isn’t compatible with old PCs, you’ll be able to use the first 137GB (or 128GB) but not beyond this limit. You’ll have to update your BIOS to support it; “48bit LBA” is the phrase you should know. On the other hand your OS is required to be patched in order to address beyond the 137GB boundary. Currently, WinXP SP2 (Integrated) supports these hard drives out of the box, Win2K has to be SP3 or above as well as modifying your registry by hand. Take a look at here to learn more.

The final thing (a compliant), the bundled AMD cpu fan is crap, it looked so unprofessional and useless, I keep hearing of some crunchy noises from the fan occasionally, I may get a branded one later.

UPDATE: I found out the flawed fan with crunchy noise comes from the Northbridge fan, and it couldn't be removed easily.
